Last week was very busy for me, and I couldnt stop at most of your blogs - sorry folks will stop by sometime!
How we look, how we feel, how healthy we are and how we perform all narrows down to one - What we eat! After having written a funny post on tummy, I wanted to write a 10 pointer on simple easy to buy foods that could be beneficial to us, help us feel energetic and improve our health and battle against body fat
Note: These foods works best when combined with an all round regular exercise regimen( it could be anything from stretching your arms and legs or walking on the treadmill for atleast half an hour everyday).
1. Oatmeal
Oats are slow to digest and provide you a steady sustained flow of energy to take you through the first few hours of the day. Its always good to have a oatmeal with a cup of milk for breakfast everyday!
2. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in carotenoid - which have proved to improve immunity as well as the risk of developing heart attacks. To gain more resistance eat more tomatoes, but folks with Kidney trouble you'd better consult your physician before eating this!
3. Almonds
Little do we realize that not only do almonds provide teaste and texture to foods, they also provide more complete nutrition than you can imagine - One ounce of almond contains 12% of the daily allowance of the protein you need and 35% of daily allowance of Vitamin E - A antidoxidant in fighting cancer! If you are pregnant, Almonds are a definite add-on to your diet as they provide you the folic acid you need!
4. Fish
Salmon tops the list with the best fish amongst the other fishes, to be had in your food. I really dont know how it tastes or even a cooked fish looks like, but for all you non-vegetarians, remember this is one great source for all your protein! Include fish in your food atleast 1-2 times a week!
5. Milk
Lets not forget that this is best source of calcium which prevents our bones from becoming weak and helps against developing osteoporosis later in life! But watch-out few develop allergies by consuming milk. Milk isnt the perfect food, but is still good in its various forms and its always good to have a cup of milk everyday
6. Apple
Apples are rich in pectin fibre, that helps in keeping the blood cholesterol levels in balance and importantly help in controlling appetite levels, thus aiding us in our battle against overeating.
7. Tea
The golden beverage of all time - its helps in reducing the risk of cancer, heart attack and Parkinson's disease. Also know as the Wonder drug - tea has "Theanine" an amino acid unique to tea that delays' ageing(isnt that great!), helps fighting viral infection, and helps prevent blood clotting!
8. Garlic
A little smelly though, Garlic keeps your heart healthy, wards off your cough and cold problems and reduces cholesterol. Teenagers with acne problems - this is one natural solution to keep acne away and it is also a natural mosquito repellant! But a lot of folks have allergy to garlic too - symptoms including skin rash, headaches and so on, hence consult your doctor if you experience trouble when eating garlic
9. Kidney Beans
Why Kidney beans? Because they are an excellent source of Iron, folate as well as magnesium. Folks with diabetes this is your best medicine as its rich fiber prevents your blood sugar rising rapidly after a sumptuous meal!
10. Finally Water - the elixir of life
The functions of water go beyond just hydration. They include aiding digestion, weight loss, regulating body temperature, aiding the kidney in excretion, lubricating our joints and the list goes on and on and on....
Other than kidney beans and almonds, we eat all of those regularly. I like beans and almonds, they just haven't been regular items.
Presently they say coffee (yea!)and red wine are good for you as well. Those items seems to change favorability every other month.
I'm still hoping beer will be declared the miracle cure-all. :)
