N-Ways to Get Best from Yourself - Part II

4. Focus and dont be elated with Success!

The great philosopher Confucius said "A man who chases two rabbits catches neither" . One of the simple yet greatest principles to success: is focusing your energy on things that are possible! If you have trouble identifying what to focus on, dont plan for long term goals. Think what you would like to achieve or do in the next 3-6 months, plan for it and work towards it. The real secret in getting things done lies in knowing what needs to be left undone. Only when you know what you are working on, you will know how to shield yourself from failures. And remember success in not permanent. I redefine the famous saying
"Failure is the stepping stone to success" as
"Failure is the stepping stone to success. Success brings you happiness and contentment. A contented brain becomes idle. An idle brain leads to more failures. Be contended when you fail, and humble when you succeed"

5.Understand how to attack problems !

A professor was once addressing a group of young students who were aspiring to become great leaders. He had a glass container is front of him and started filling it with rocks until it was neck brim full. He then asked the students

"Is this container full?" The students replied "Yes!" and he started to fill it with small pebbles in the remnants of gaps and asked again" Is this full?" Seeing where he was heading, the students replied cautiously "No we can add sand" He added sand to it until it was full and could no longer hold anything and asked again "Is it full?" All the students replied affirmatively "Yes its full" He then poured water until it started to flow over and asked "Is this full now? and all of them said in unison "Yes it is!!"

"Very well!", said the professor and he continued "In the container of life, we face so many hurdles and problems, a few as simple, minute and small as the water or sand and few so great as the rocks! Think what would have happened if I had poured water first into the container and then dropped the rocks, all the water would have been wasted! To proliferate success, understand how to attack problems, for that is the first step towards solving it!

6. Go the extra mile!
A sales person who makes 100 calls a day is certain to close more deals than the one who makes only 50 calls. Be proactive in taking actions! German philosopher Goethe said

"Knowing is not enough, we must apply. Willing is not enough, we must do" Learn, apply what you have learnt and be ready to walk the extra mile, you can easily achieve success!

7. Raise your standards and never under-estimate!

All men who have been highly successful are great listeners. They listen to things, people and never under-estimate the wonderful ideas that people share with them. Doctors use the term "Amblyopia" to describe the condition that occurs when the healthy eye of a young child, loses its ability to see when covered by a patch. People who donot raise their standards also suffer from their own form of amblyopia. Push yourself hard to see the boundless opportunites around you. For remember

"Conquer satisfaction in life through excellence and initiative, conquer fear in life by facing it".

Alright part 2 ends here, and I dont want to drag this post anylonger, feel free to hit me with your comments!

Great post prasanna! With regards to point 6 I hear a saying recently; " Everyone knows what to do, but very few people do what they know"

I love point seven about being a great listener...no matter how great a listener I am, I can always be better! It' like when I hear an audio book for the first time, I take something from it, and then I hear it again and take new things from it too! So I must see things with not only new eyes but hear things with new ears!

I think that rock, sand, water thing had come as a email forward. But I liked the following very much

"Failure is the stepping stone to success. Success brings you happiness and contentment. A contented brain becomes idle. An idle brain leads to more failures. Be contended when you fail, and humble when you succeed"

4. Whatever we plan to do we do need some 'recognition". Some reconition comes thru' our goals/ performance/ bonus/promotion issues.
To go to that level we really need to focus with too many aggressive and competitive ppl.

5.If we understnad our problems, we can easily analyze or resolve it. Every problem has a different solution and that has to be dealt very sensitive.

6.By not saying no, we can always either update our skills or atleast try to learn the basics. The steps can be different, but the ways are same.

7.A good listener can observe better in few seconds what the other is.
